Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta on Monday hosted Algeria’s Foreign Affairs minister Ramtane Lamamra, for 11th session of the Algerian-Malian Bilateral Strategic Committee for Northern Mali.
The meeting coincides with the 1st anniversary of the signing of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement in Mali, resulting from the Algiers peace agreement in 2015.
“We have just completed a year in which the foundations of serious development work and systematic implementations were put through legislative, regulatory and institutional actions, that were taken by the Republic of Mali, through developments on the ground and also at regional and international level as well,” Ramtane Lamamra said.
Lamamra will also meet with members of the agreement’s monitoring committee, “to assess the progress achieved in its implementation and identify means to speed up the process.”
“I think with our determination, our commitment ancd our political will, this peace agreement that is called the Algiers Agreement will be a success story.We were disunited brothers but our reunion is in progress, as we have rediscovered ourselves fully and completely,“said the Malian president.
Under the mediation of Algeria and the support of the international community, a peace and reconciliation deal was signed on May 20, 2015 in Bamako, after five rounds of peace negotiations between the Malian warrant parties in Algiers.
